Sunday afternoon. Elinor is sleeping, Pete is at work for
another two hours, I hear the neighbors mowing the lawn, and dirty diaper
laundry is started. We have many boxes to unpack, just waiting for us in the
garage. We have too many leftovers from our moving party in the fridge. We have
two lawns to mow. We have cleaning and other assorted “fun” things to do at the
old rental. It will be good to get them accomplished and to get our damage
deposit back. We get Internet at the house on Monday. We have transferred most
of the bills, but forgot to do the Post Office.
Taking a moment to track our
progress and our accomplishments…. Elinor now nearly runs with the alligator
cart- laughing the whole time. She’ll crash into the wall or whatever it is on
the other side, and stop. I wonder about how you teach a kid to turn a cart.
It’s nice though, knowing that she’s stuck… sort of keeps her in the same spot…
until she decides to move onto something else that catches her attention! She’s
been getting better at not touching things, but really the new house is free
range for her. She follows you into any and all the rooms, except the garage.
She’s a good little baby.
I
had been leading (with friend Deb) a beginner adult mountain bike ride. It was
the last 6 Sundays. It was the same loop, with the intention of being able to
get better each week and see your progress. We’ll offer it again in the summer,
and at a different time. I’m just sighing a breath of relieve that it happened,
we can make changes for next time and close this chapter. Success!
As
far as that last bullet point list, checkedy check check for the epoxy, build
the shelves, and buy the compost. Half done with the nail holes and paint.
Fence stuff is waiting for the 811- call before you dig people- to mark up the
yard. We were told it should be done by Tuesday. Then some measurements and
pricing out the fence, which will not only keep the deer out of the
yard/garden, but Elinor in! I’ll just send her out the backyard to go play.
Speaking
of playing, she ate her first clump of dirt. Yum. She found her first handful
of rocks. Wee. She investigated her first lawn sprinkler (off and not attached
to a hose, but figured it out no less J) We also spent the
better part of Saturday sitting out in the sun. We all were pleasantly thirsty,
warm and tired for afternoon nap. What a good summer day that one was.
