No fooling!

We did it. Pete pulled it off. We sure fooled them.
Today, our real estate agent Sheila delivered keys to Pete. We loaded the car with the baby, baby toys, her backpack, our backpack, some food, some whiskey and beer. We drove to our new driveway, pressed the garage door button and let ourselves into our brand new home.
We put our shoes and jackets in the entryway closet, and took a deep breath. Elinor quickly settled into crawling around to see what was around each corner, and following us laughing and smiling as she went. I unpacked her toys to offer her some focused stimulation. I grabbed the camera, snapped a few pictures and decided we should get our first meal in the oven. Pizza! The oven has never been used, and after all this time we used it with the first half hour. I love it. More so, I love the people that helped us with the rest of the down payment. An everlasting thank you sent out to you.
It was interesting remembering how things really are, how there was a shelf there, or a light switch here, which switches went to which, and simply and quickly taking it all in. Simplicity. I forget how nice a place is when it’s empty and open. Is it the idea that you get to fill it how you want? Or is it the idea that its (generally) unlike how you just left that- sort of like a hotel room where it feels clean and simple and comforting in a way since it’s just bare necessities?
There is so much to do. There was so much we have already done. One step at a time. One day at a time. One moment at a time. We need to savor this experience. I wonder what comes next? Hmm.
For sure, here are few of the things we’d like to do with our new house.
  • Epoxy the garage floor
  • Build shelves in the garage (we already have some so it most likely will be setting up what we have and adjusting what we need)
  • Putty and paint in the old nail holes from previous hangings
  • Measure out what size of fence we’d like
  • Scheme up a plan for building the fence- Adam I hope you know you’ll be put to work helping us put this in…
  • Buy compost from the city (on sale now until they run out) so we can start our garden
  •  Lay out the garden beds and prep them for the seedlings we’ll be buying in a few short weeks

Big projects… and yet, not really at all. I realize we need to move in, move out of the old rental, continue to work at our jobs, make connections with the new neighbors, prepare for Elinor’s first birthday, and start to enjoy this.
We have it all. We surely are happy.
