September Paddle up to San Juan Islands

Fox Cove on Sucia Island

Hiking path on Sucia

oh you beautiful Madrona trees.

Fox cove

I just love it! getting started at 8am really gets the solitude that's needed.

Purple Ocre Star... we saw over one thousand on our three and a half days! sooo many

Paddle partner Liz

Harbor Seal

She eventually stuck her tongue out at us, but never shied! Beautiful

Oh to be out on the water. The floating things are Bull Kelp.

We are so little in the grand scheeeme.

Even on cold days, it's still worth it.

Amazing a 6 legged Ocre star! I've never seen one.

Lunch stop day three on the North side of Orcas Island

mmm.

Wind swept trees on the southern tip of Clark Island.
Liz, my paddling partner from all the Adventure Treks (A.T.) trips we do at PT Outdoors, lives in Bellingham. She had the great idea of squeezing in a paddle trip before the end of summer... just us. I hopped on the chance.
We allotted three and a half days to get a "Taste of the San Juans" in our schedules.  We started in Bellingham bay, crossed over to Lummi Island, then around the north side and crossed the Strait of Rosario to Clark Island. From the top of Clark, we paddled up to Matia Island, and camped out. the next morning we paddled in what turned into stronger and worse weather and finally made it in to Sucia Island on Fossil Bay. we spent the afternoon waiting out the wind and sleeping in the sun on the beach.  we camped out at the next morning (had portaged across that teenie land portion), and  started out in Fox cove, went up and around the northern side and had lunch in Ewing cove, down to the northern side of Orcas Island for second lunch. Then crossed for the southern tip of Clark Island and the Three Sisters. we landed at the state park ready for dinner.  the next day we paddled back across and went home.
Lots of open water, lots of sea life, many plants and excellent campsites. Thank you!
I might try and get a map of our trail up with some of the mileage: not for showing off but for my knowledge. but that will come later.
Love,
N
