Bernard is cuter than ever... and 17.5 pounds!
Tabitha's family is hatching chicks. While Elinor didn't get close, T knew what to do, and posed for a picture. They started hatching on Friday. It was fun seeing them, and the mechanical/plug-in incubator. Elinor was entraled by it all... just not the touching them part. She did touch one when I helped her do so by holding her hand.
That experience (and maybe a winnie the pooh easter movie she watched with Sue?) then morphed into talking about how our dyed easter eggs will hatch into chicks. that took a little explaining! So on easter morning the dyed eggs were all over the house... she saw the first one and said "oh an egg got out of the fridge!" I asked where the others were and she needed to look in the fridge and see that they weren't there. then I explained that they were all hiding around the house and she could put them back in the egg carton when she found them. that was an acceptable answer to her... we found all the eggs. and took a few photos.
then I had to discuss how there might be a basket hiding... it was a great moment remembering how literal children are.... how new to everything... how full, vibrant, and present they are...
it was a good easter.
ps. if anyone thinks people only start eating chocolate easter bunnies on the ears or feet... think again. my 2 year old's first chocolate easter bunny bite was in its back. crunch.
