30 June 2012

3 months

It's already the end of June.

Monday marks 12 weeks of life outside the womb for our little baby. Elinor was 14 pounds on Wednesday when I went to breastfeeding tea. It was my first time with her outside the womb. It's County Health Dept sponsored and there is a moderator, who is now our midwife!, tea, crumpets, toys and just a safe place for mothers to bring their wee ones for social interaction, to get questions answered and to get current weights. It was good to go: two other women: one from my birthing class, and one with a two and a half week old.

I've picked up a position Coordinating all the volunteers for the Wooden Boat Festival. It's the weekend of Sept 6-9. I thankfully have a co-coordinator, and still I wonder how it all gets done by the deadline. I've been going to office hours Tues & Thurs 3-5pm. And really need to kick it up a notch to get it going a little more. I think about eight hours a week will be about right?! There are Captains who organize their own crews and we'll see how that all works out.... as long as I can keep the Captains going!

We went to the Farmer's Market again today. Foggy, cool, and overcast. Then rainy. I got some more carrots, and some rhubarb. Halsey's family has been outta town the last two weeks and they gave us their Wednesday drop-off CSA food shares. So we got a bunch of free veggies these last two weeks. Thanks! I'm looking forward to canning some this season. I'd like to get some foods prepared for baby food this fall. I just need to get rolling on what we need. It's already the middle of strawberry season, and rhubarb season is a couple more weeks (according to the farmer this morning who I bought my two pounds worth). I'm going to chop it up, add sugar then let it sit and add it to my homemade yogurt. Yum!

I've been trying to take heaps of photos of little E. She has started grabbing things with her fingers rather than her fist. She has always grabbed stuff when startled or excited. Now it's just more stuff, and more often. It's pretty darn cute, and I think she might turn into a blankie lover. She also holds your hand when you are holding her binky in her mouth. Or puts her hands together while sucking her binky and stares at/watches you.

She's getting bigger by the day. Sometimes when I look at her in certain seats (the swing, the bouncy seat, the carseat), I see how much they've gotten smaller- and really it's just that she fills them in more. There are no more 0-3 month clothes that she fits into anymore. I'd even say that she's midway through the next size range. With the temps being in the 50s-70s it's mostly pants and shortsleeves, but sometimes sweaters or shorts.... good ole summer temps in the Pacific Northwest.

Pete's been doing well at the shop. Weekends require three people on staff, and weekdays two; as it's picking up for the summer months. Really, it already has picked up and is totally full force into the summer months. The road construction downtown is complete and that helps with the foot and other traffic into the shop!

My first, of three, kayak trips is the week. Tues-Thurs. I'm really looking forward to them. I have forgotten a lot of the local flora and fauna but I still know how to kayak and to teach, so I can only assume that I'll do just fine. Eli will be staying with Pete all day, and we'll meet up in the evenings to get some nursing and cuddly time.

Cloth diapering has been going very well. She lets us know when she's wet or definitely when she's pooped. We have enough to get through a day- give or take a few hours-. As long as we pack enough when we head outta the house, and as long as we get the next load washed in time; things work out just fine. Our wash machine does an extra small load size and it's absolutely perfect. When we traveled we used disposable so we still have a few of those laying around which are used as back up, or we just let her sit en plein aire for the time being. augh yeah.

Sarah and Justin (and Skyler n Montana) bought a house! congrats to them. I look forward to not only seeing it but spending lots of time with them making it a home and also relaxing. They're working on the closing paper work.

Margaret and Garth's wedding on the 24th was a blast. Outside and in the rain, then reception at the Maritime Center with a dance and everything! I danced a lot and had a blast. I also drank waay to much wine and had a hang over the next day. Thankfully Pete took care of Elinor while I was three sheets to the wind. For all of you who were at our wedding (two years ago!), Garth was the guy playing the saxophone at our wedding.

Jen and Dan are happily married and hiding away from us all. Kidding. We have a skype date with them on Sunday arvo at 4pm. It will be fun to talk with them.

Oh yes, Thursday night I wanted to join Pete and the Broken Spoke gang on the weekly mountain bike ride. So I did. I asked one of our friends, Sue, to watch her. Sue and Elinor hung out for the first time for two hours. They both faired well, and Sue offered to watch her again sometime! good news.
She also said it was her honor to do so. Yippee for PT Grandma Sue! :)

Our two year wedding anniversary is just around the corner. What a full two years! Where has all the time gone? What will happen in the next two years?

Okay. over and out. xo
